Yes, after I would press Start Game, a VDos32 black (small) screen would pop up, then a Glidos Server gray (small) screen.  Then a complete (monitor size) black screen.  After I hit Escape twice, the game would come up.

Vdos32 is a black screen with Vdos32 shown in
the upper left corner.

Is this a largish black screen, in addition to the initial VDos32 dialog box?

Glidos Server then opens as a gray screen with Glide
Server in the same place.

Is this a large grey screen, in addition to the initial VDos32 dialog box?

If I don't hit Escape, the screens would just sit
there.

I've never seen that under VDos32. I've seen it running without VDos32 when the sound card settings are wrong, but that shouldn't be possible when using the preconfigured archive.

I'm sorry, I initially thought the game was opening from the disc since I
had removed Tomb Raider from my drive, but I discovered the preconfigured
program you steared me to created a Tomb Raider folder on my hard drive, and
I copied my save games there.

Yeah, that's the right thing to do.

Then I disabed Vdos32 again. The game
started right up with no Vdos32 or Glidos Server screens, and I have complete
sound. Evidently my computer does not like Vdos32.

That's a little disturbing. One of the main points to using VDos32 is to reduce the dependency on specific system drivers. When running under VDos32, your system is isolated from the actual TR game by VDos32. Very strange.

Everything seems to be fine now.

Well, that's good news, anyway

Thanks, Paul, for your steady help.

No problem. I just wish I'd managed to get you up and running with VDos32, because that would have a better chance of remaining working through later driver updates that you might get via Windows Update. Still, if you run into problems, you can always come back.

Cheers,
 Paul.
