OK rebooted and tried again. First up it crashed to the desktop without
even showing the intro FMV –
but then I remembered that the shut down process ejects the Zip disk which
has to be in the drive
for any of it to work (my DVD drive is not D: but E:).
Yes that will crash. Nothing to do with Glidos. That version of Tomb.exe does that for some reason.
If you can get to use the Glidos button to start TR then Glidos will check the drives before the one
with the TR CD in are not empty, and ensure you don't get this crash.
Put that back in and tried again with exactly the same result, a blinking
cursor,
ALT-TAB to a blank screen with a Glidos error box saying failed to change
screen
display. Back to the menu but no possibility of getting the game to play.
Again, if you can get it to work from the Glidos button, then you will not have
to use ALT-TAB and you will not get the mode change error.
Out of interest the TR music has just finished playing as I write this.
Glidos is set at 1024x768 (which is the desktop resolution) and full
screen.
My girlfriend tells me that it does seem to work about every fifth time –
though I have to
report that I must have tried about 8 times with no success – maybe I hit
the keys too hard???
While we are sorting out these problems, you would be better off setting Glidos non-fullscreen mode
and bring the res down a bit.
I alos use the method of hitting the keys very hard, but I don't think I've ever seen it work. :-)
My drivers come up as version 6.13.2942 and include the openGL client
driver. The IRQ for the card is 11. The BIOS version is 3.15.00.07.17.
It would be well worth running the TR setup.exe and disabling sound while we trace the problem. One less thing to think about.
I've been an IT professional for 14 years but sometimes I really, really
wish that I understood computers sigh
I'd definitely recommend installing the latest version of Glidos. Delete or rename the Glidos folder first. Reinstall TR also.
Glidos will have copied files to the Tombraid folder; reinstalling will give you a fresh start. Try to use the Glidos button
because that copies some important files around before starting TR and it does some checks. v1.15 gives better error
reporting and may tell us what's going wrong.
